Our Story

Country of sandstone and limestone, the Community of Communes of Freyming-Merlebach is made up of 11 communes: Barst-Marienthal, Béning-les-St-Avold, Betting, Cappel, Farébersviller, Freyming-Merlebach, Guenviller, Henriville, Hombourg-Haut , Hoste-Valette and Seingbouse

We should not look for great heritage legacies here. The last world war, after so many other conflicts, had a profound impact on the villages bordering the Maginot Line, leaving buildings in ruins. Generally speaking, the region has also paid its tribute to progress and industrial development which has disrupted the ancient cultural heritage.

A small heritage however, very interesting and often ignored, invites you to discover these endearing villages, particularly with regard to the old habitat.

All you have to do is abandon the hectic RN3 (CD 603) and the Rosselle valley to access the plateau and discover a traditional countryside decorated with beautiful villages.

The old villages which date from the Middle Ages are generally "village-heaps" while the clearing entities installed at the end of the XNUMXth century or the beginning of the XNUMXth century have an original structure of the "village-street" type like Valette , the Hoste annex, Henriville and Freyming. These centuries-old aspects have often lost their specificity, diluted in the extension of the urban fabric and current housing developments.
