The tool for those curious about nature.

If you love nature, chances are you have already taken notes of your observations, on paper or in your phone for example, but you can make these observations and your walks outdoors a hobby that makes you more attentive, more curious and more creative.

All without the need for any artistic talent or initial knowledge on animals or plants.

Welcome to the happy world of the naturalist field notebook!

Plants, mammals, insects, landscapes, weather, astronomy, geology... anything that surrounds you and interests you can be the subject.

But then, concretely, what is it?

The naturalist notebook consists of collecting and organizing your observations, your questions, your links and your explanations on the pages of a notebook using words, images and numbers. These skills can be learned by anyone and you can develop them through practice. The principle is creative and fun, easy to implement and learn. Don’t hesitate: you can do it!

The Tourist Office offers outdoor introductory outings (duration 2h) and basic equipment is provided. Many activities, techniques, tips and mini-games, for adults and children alike, are presented during these outings: there are therefore never two alike! On the other hand, it is not not a drawing class.

This activity is for everyone: for adults and children alike. It gives you the keys to developing your observation skills, your curiosity and your wonder for nature in a fun way, with a really easy method.

Teachers, professors, facilitators: here is the perfect activity for your groups and classes!

A naturalist notebook workshop is the ideal outing.

It suitable for all age groups, from CP to adults. It makes the visit to a natural site (for example the Hoste ponds or the Barrois quarry) even more captivating and, above all, participatory.

When you keep a naturalist notebook, you draw inspiration directly from nature and not from a screen, TikTok, a company or a celebrity. This goes against much of the digital world children live in today. Nature is real, nature is vast, nature can be part of the school curriculum. All it takes is a tool to help children channel this unlimited source.

Ideally, this isa flexible tool, which can be adapted to your educational objectives and the desires of each child. The tool must allow growth and an increase in difficulty and the number of concrete applications. It must be personal and work alone, but also serve communication and teamwork. The tool should also incorporate basic thinking tools such as words, numbers, and visual problem solving.

Guess what ? The naturalist notebook is the tool that meets all these criteria.

You can book this activity with our Tourist Office for any site or commune in the community of communes of Freyming-Merlebach (subject to availability of the guide, inquire).
