FORMER CONVENT OF THE RÉCOLLETS

  • Vincent VION

The building is only visible from the outside: 2-story building with vaulted cellar, in pink sandstone. Admirable baroque portal in yellow sandstone, decorated with the statue of Saint-François (1769). Possibility of including it in a guided city tour. After the dissolution of the Saint-Étienne chapter in 1743, the Duke of Lorraine Stanislas authorized the establishment in Hombourg of Franciscan Recollect monks. These monks built a new convent next to the collegiate church and resided there until the Revolution. After the departure of the Récollets, the building served as a presbytery until 1749.
