LOWLAND BROTHERS + THE CINELLI BROTHERS

  • LE GOUVY

Lowland Brothers was born from the alchemy between five soul brothers, all lovers of Black Music, 60's melodies and 70's groove. They have shaped a timeless Hypnotic Soul that one might believe comes from across the Atlantic but which nevertheless originates from France. “Hostile to any categorization, what we like is to mix everything that touches us. Soul, rock'n'roll, hip hop, country, gospel, Afro-beat... It gives something on the Mystic Frontier and very cinematic, like a Road Movie. » Their first eponymous album illustrates this well, each piece is like a new landscape that we see passing by. From wide open spaces with Sunburns in December (first single from this album) where a western guitar slips under the sheets of soul, to urban settings with Two Pounds of Loaded Steel where a hip hop beat sets the pace for a saturated riff. No stylistic boundaries for siblings. What upsets them is the songs. Those of Curtis Mayfield, Dan Auerbach, Johnny Adams or Alabama Shakes. So the melodies and voices have pride of place, highlighted by compositions imbued with simplicity, without ever giving in to ease. It is also and above all on stage that Lowland Brothers stands out. The cohesion of the five musicians is obvious and we witness this musical Road Movie live. Nico's voice guides us, supported by those of Hugo and Max and vintage instruments with today's sounds, in an ensemble full of energy without ever being forceful. They then bring to life powerful songs, which make us want to go elsewhere. The Cinelli Brothers are four boys living in Great Britain, talented multi-instrumentalist musicians, who are inspired by the Blues to offer a repertoire located somewhere else towards rock and pop, they write and play songs which seem simple but turn out to be devilishly effective and above all more sophisticated than it seems, with vocal harmonies that few groups are capable of doing on stage... Any resemblance with an existing or having existed group is not not quite a coincidence!
